A space for you to talk things through

Experienced Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Bereavement Counsellor & Supervisor in Haslemere and Online with Sissel Marti

Welcome to Counselling Haslemere

Many people go through periods when painful experiences, difficult memories from the past, worries about the future or personal problems in relationships, careers, health or family life, make it difficult to cope with everyday life. Talking through these issues with a well trained and experienced therapist in a safe, therapeutic relationship can help you to find different ways of thinking, feeling and understanding which can lead to insight and change.

Perhaps the problem is very specific and a few sessions and brief interventions may be all you want or need to cope more effectively. Perhaps it feels important to look deeper, to allow time to make self discoveries, for reconciliation and for coming to terms with that which we cannot change.

My name is Sissel Marti, a professionally qualified and experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor based in Haslemere, Surrey and online. I work with individual adults and young people (16+) on a short term and long term basis. I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for us to discuss the challenges you are facing so you can understand yourself better and work towards making more positive choices in your life. The work also involves highlighting your strengths, reviewing your coping mechanisms together with a view to changing them if necessary.

How can psychotherapy & counselling help you?

Modern life can be so busy that we rarely take the time to reflect on our lives and the challenges that we face. Counselling and Psychotherapy provides you with the time and space to explore your struggles in depth so you can understand them and yourself better.

Using my skills, knowledge and experience my role is to work with you to develop a greater understanding of an aspect of your life, personality or relationships, or help you reach your goals. And to help you develop tools for changes in thinking and behaviour that are based on your insights and choice.

What to expect

Therapy is a very personal activity. For this reason, I offer an initial meeting free of charge. This appointment is 30 minutes long, so shorter than a normal session, but it gives us an opportunity to meet and see if we would like to work together. You can also ask any questions you may have about counselling and the therapeutic process at this time. If we agree to work together, I will offer you a regular appointment, usually weekly.

The first 2-3 sessions are for assessment. Here you would tell me about yourself, what you feel your difficulties are and what you would like to get out of the sessions with me. At the end of these, we would then talk about the best way forward, based on your goals and how many sessions you are having.

I work with a broad range of issues you may be faced with, such as:

  • Depression, anxiety or finding it hard to cope
  • Personal growth and development
  • Relationship issues, betrayal and marital problems
  • Cancer counselling, living with incurable illness
  • Bereavement, grief and loss (of relationships, work, health)
  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • Abuse
  • Psychosomatic disorders
  • Fear and panic
  • Eating disorders
  • Low self esteem
  • Lack of confidence
  • Feelings of isolation or loneliness
  • Lack of sense of belonging
  • Self destructive behaviours, self harming
  • Identity issues, gender issues
  • Understanding and managing anger

  • Workplace/career, performance, redundancy, bullying
